Burn Injury Victims in Clermont, Inverness and Tavares Need Legal Experience on Their Side

We help victims of burn injuries deal with the long and expensive recovery they face

Few injuries are as painful or have as long and arduous a road to recovery as burn injuries. The damage that burn injuries cause to skin, nerve, muscle and bone can permanently and massively impact the life of a victim and his or her family. If you or a loved one has suffered a burn injury, you owe it to yourself to find out if you have a valid claim for legal compensation. An experienced attorney, like those at Largey Law in Central Florida, can help make that determination.

Understanding burn injuries

Chances are you have heard of the different classifications of burns, but you may not understand what each means.

  • First-degree burns damage only the outer layer of skin. They are equivalent to a painful sunburn without blisters and usually heal in a few days.
  • Second-degree burns can be classified as partial thickness or full thickness burns. A partial thickness burn may blister and usually heals in a matter of weeks. Full thickness burns are more serious. They appear dry, do not blanch or blister and often require excision and skin grafts.
  • Third-degree burns destroy all layers of skin and extend into subcutaneous tissues. They do not hurt, as all nerves have been destroyed, but are often surrounded by painful second- and first-degree burns.

A fourth degree of burn also exists. It extends into muscle and bone.

Not all burns are caused by flame or heat.

  • Chemical burns are caused by strong acids or alkali substances and continue to damage the skin until the agent is neutralized. They can also go unnoticed for an extended period of time.
  • Electrical burns can be caused by either AC or DC current and the extent of the damage cannot be determined by a visual examination. These burns carry a much greater risk of heart attack and hypoxia than regular burns, given the potential damage to internal organs.

How common are burn injuries?

More common than you would think. When burn injuries occur, they frequently do so as the result of a work accident or some sort of premises liability incident.
